Sun Jiandong Sun Jiandong，born in Shanghai in 1952, graduated from Fine Art Department of Yunnan Arts University in 1982 and was employed by his Alma Mater upon graduation, then became a disciple of the famous painter Yuan Xiaocen. Now he is a staff-member of the Yunnan Institute for Traditional Sinology, a professor of Fine Art department of Yunnan Arts University, postgraduate tutor, member of Chinese Artists Association, deputy president of Yunnan Artists Association, standing committee member of Yunnan Committee of CPPCC, enjoying special allowance awarded by provincial government. His works were selected for the 7th and 8th National Art Exhibitions. He held personal exhibitions in Taiwan and Rennes, France respectively in 2000 and 2004, and a large-scale exhibition inYunnan Provincial Museum in 2011. He won the gold prize for modern international famous ink and wash painters, He was "one of 100 Outstanding Artists of China in 1999" , rated as National Outstanding Teacher in 2007 and Renowned Teacher of Yunnan Higher Learning, and Advanced Worker of Yunnan in 2008. His workshop was set up in 2009. He was also honored with the title of renowned teacher by Yunnan Educational Bureau. His published works are Famous Paintings in Modern China-Sun Jiangdong, A Collection of Traditional Chinese Paintings by Sun Jiandong, Brief Artistic Biography of Yuan Xiaocen (co-author with others) and How to Paint Peacock in Xieyi Method, etc. More than twenty kinds of his monograph are published.
